Names & monograms
Names and monograms, stitched exactly as they should read
Whether it is a single set of initials on a shirt cuff or a hundred staff names on uniforms, personalisation has to be right letter for letter. We embroider names, initials, monograms, job titles and player names onto garments, bags, towels and gifts, working from your list and proofing every layout before stitching.
- Works from your name list
- Classic monogram styles
- Logo plus name combos
- Every spelling proofed

From staff name tags to gift monograms
Personalised embroidery covers two very different jobs, and we handle both:
- Name lists for teams: staff names and job titles on corporate clothing, nurse and doctor names on scrubs, chef names on jackets, player names on tracksuits and kit bags
- School wear: learner names inside or on blazers, jerseys and bags so lost property finds its way home
- Gifts and keepsakes: initials on shirt cuffs, robes, towels, caps and baby blankets
- Events: bridal party robes, matric jackets and reunion shirts with a name each
Names can stand alone or sit beside your logo, so every staff member wears a consistent brand mark with their own name beneath it.
Monogram and lettering styles
A traditional three-letter monogram places the surname initial larger in the centre, with first and middle initials either side. Other popular formats include stacked initials, a single initial in a decorative frame, or a full name in script.
- Block and sans-serif: clean and highly legible for uniforms and workwear
- Serif: formal and classic for shirts, blazers and robes
- Script: elegant on gifts, needing a little more height to stay readable
Fine script on fleece or terry may need to be enlarged slightly. We show the actual size on the proof so there are no surprises.
How to send a name list that avoids mistakes
Most personalisation errors start with the list, not the machine. To keep a large order clean:
- Use a spreadsheet with one row per garment: name, garment type, size and colour
- Type names exactly as they should appear, including capital letters, accents and hyphens
- Add a second line (job title, department or number) in its own column
- Mark any names that need a different font or colour
We lay out a sample of the list on the proof, then stitch each piece against the spreadsheet and bag or label garments per person if you ask, which makes distribution easy.
Placement that suits the garment
Names usually go on the right chest opposite a left-chest logo, under the logo, or on a sleeve. Monograms sit on a shirt cuff, the pocket, the left chest just above the pocket line, or the inside collar. On jackets and hoodies a name across the upper back is popular for teams and matric groups.
Our placement and size guide shows common positions and letter heights.
Turnaround on personalised orders
Single names and short lists are often quick because the lettering does not need new digitising. Same-day work is possible on qualifying orders, subject to garments being available, an approved name list, payment and production capacity, and we confirm timing on the quote. Long lists take longer, because each name is stitched individually.
Orders are collected from Rivonia, and delivery can be quoted per job.

Frequently asked questions
Can I order just one name on one shirt?
Yes. One-off personalisation is welcome, whether on a garment you bring in or one we supply. Because lettering usually needs no custom digitising, single names are often among the quickest jobs we do, subject to capacity.
What happens if a name is spelt wrong on my list?
We stitch exactly what is on the approved list, so please check it carefully before approving. Stitching cannot be unpicked cleanly on most fabrics. If we notice something that looks like a typo, we will query it before production.
Can you add names to uniforms that already have a logo?
Yes. Bring the garments and we will position names to balance the existing logo. Tell us whether names go opposite, under or beside the logo, and send the list in the same order as the garments if sizes differ.
How small can lettering be?
It depends on the font and fabric. Simple block lettering stays legible smaller than script, and smooth fabrics hold finer detail than fleece or terry. We will recommend a minimum height and show it on your proof.
Do you match a specific corporate font?
We can often digitise a supplied font for names if it suits embroidery. Some thin or highly detailed fonts do not stitch well at small sizes, in which case we will suggest the closest clean alternative.
